SafeWork NSW launched a year-long blitz targeting dodgy building sites, with inspectors focusing on work from heights.
Businesses who don’t take the necessary precautions to protect workers from the risk of falls from heights should be ready.
SafeWork NSW says the number of falls from heights on work sites has tripled over the last 5 years and a vast majority of these falls are from the construction industry. They stressed that falls are the main killer on construction sites in the state, so employers need to do all they must to prevent it.
So far this year, there have been 8 people killed in work related falls and many more were severely injured.
SafeWork warned that inspectors would be taking advantage of the state’s tough new laws, which came into effect in November. Inspectors can issue spot fines of up to $3600 to non-compliant businesses. See more at https://prwire.com.au/pr/74501/nsw-safety-blitz-to-target-falls-from-heights
