According to Queensland Health, 25 people have died in the state so far this year due to the flu. In light of this, people are being urged to get vaccinated as soon as possible.
This year alone there have been 10,000 flu cases in Queensland which may not seem serious but was responsible for the deaths of 43 Queensland residents last year.
According to Chief Health Officer Dr Jeannette Young all Queenslanders need to get vaccinated as soon as possible. She said the severity of the flu season was difficult to forecast but she expected it to be worse this year than last year.
According to Dr. Young flu cases are up about 3 and a half times the average for this time of the year with 848 people admitted to hospital this year.
