An apprentice has been killed at a Melbourne business recently. It is believed the 20 year old man was working inside an open-ended tank at a Cranbourne West business when he was overcome by fumes in the confined space.
WorkSafe Victoria said they would be launching an investigation and have yet to reveal the cause of the incident.
This incident brought the number of workplace fatalities for 2018 to 21, as compared with last year this time when the workplace death toll was 20.
We must remember to prioritise the safety of young workers by ensuring they are adequately trained for the job and sufficiently supervised. In the construction industry that training starts with the White Card course.
