Unsupported Trench A Safety Hazard

The CFMEU notified the ACT’s work safety watchdog about an unsupported trench, discovered during a site visit to the light rail project in August last year.

WorkSafe ACT is issuing an improvement notice after the dangerous 3 metre deep excavation was discovered.

The union collected safety documents about the incident and revealed that the breach comes just 3 months after another unsupported shallow trench collapsed onto a worker’s legs following heavy rainfall.

This is not the safety infraction associated with the project. Last year a prohibition notice was issued to the light rail project after a worker suffered electric shock and had  to be hospitalised.
