Following the fall of worker on a Sydney construction site, 2 businesses have been slapped with a $200,000 for failing to comply with health and safety laws.

The worker fell 2 stories because the site did not have proper safety guards in place. The worker suffered serious injuries according to Minister for Better Regulation Matt Kean including multiple broken ribs, a fractured ankle and leg.

The injured man underwent surgery which resulted in 2 weeks recovery in hospital.

The minister said this type of accident is unacceptable given that it is completely avoidable.

Mr Kean said this fine should serve as a reminder to all businesses about prioritising the safety of workers.
