Scaffolding Non-compliance an Issue in The ACT

An audit of scaffolding on construction sites in Canberra have revealed serious non-compliance issues, particularly a lack of protection from falls.

The audit by WorkSafe ACT found that only one in five scaffolds on commercial sites were fully compliant with access opening requirements.

Inspectors found that almost half of all the sites inspected (about 21 sites were inspected), had design issues including construction on uneven grounds and improperly installed ladders and stairs, posing risks of potentially deadly falls.

The WorkSafe ACT audit came after four significant falls were recorded on building sites in 2016.
