Safety Of Mobile Plant on Building Sites the Target of Blitz

There have been 16 fatalities involving work with or around heavy machinery in the past decade, prompting WorkSafe’s latest safety campaign.

Machinery such as cranes, front end loaders, elevated work platforms, forklifts, skid steer loaders, concrete trucks and other types of powered mobile plant have been responsible for thousands of incidents and injuries, which is why the work safety authority is targeting poor safety around mobile plant.

Throughout the month of May, inspectors will visit sites to ensure employers and contractors are doing everything necessary to ensure safety around machinery.

WorkSafe reminded employers, contractors and workers that due to the temporary nature of work involving this machinery, hazards and risks are constantly changing which requires assessment to also be done constantly.
