A Safe Work Australia report into workplace exposure to carcinogens has revealed that more can be done to implement preventative measures to minimise workers risks due to workplace carcinogens like asbestos, silica dust and wood dust.

These are the most common carcinogens in the construction industry and while the latest Australian Work Exposure Study (AWES) found that most workers will not develop cancer as a result of work-related exposures but those exposed to known or suspected carcinogens are at greater risk

The study evaluated the carcinogen exposure of 5528 participants from the agriculture, manufacturing and construction industries.
