According to reports Sydney’s sudden rat infestation which has them running towards restaurants in the city, has the construction boom to blame.

Council authorities and pest controllers say the construction boom is “stirring up rat populations”, even resulting in 2 inner-city outlets voluntarily closing in the past 2 weeks after rodent sightings.

Projects such as the new light rail are being blamed for driving rats into shops and restaurants.

One expert, Geoff Milton, a Sydney rat-catcher with 35 years’ experience, said infrastructure projects were agitating the rats.

He said call-outs in the city had doubled in the last 2 years and attributed it to building work, digging up roads and knocking down buildings.
