Put Safety First, Sunshine Coast Companies Urged

Businesses on the Sunshine Coast have been urged to do more to protect employees against injuries, according to WorkCover Queensland who discovered in a compliance audit that 22% of the 188 employers visited, did not have the appropriate workers’ compensation insurance.

The on-site audits of businesses in the construction and other sectors found that only 64% or 122 employers held the appropriate workers compensation insurance.

According to WorkCover’s Queensland Manager Financial Control and Reporting, Robbie McLean, employers on the Sunshine Coast who don’t insure their workers are putting their health and safety at risk as well as exposing their businesses to significant financial penalties.
