The M4 East tunnel in Sydney may be opening soon to drivers according to reports.
Workers have apparently made significant progress on the tunnel which is 5.5 km long. It stretches from the existing M4 to the City West Link at Haberfield.
The opening is expected as early as March next year, shortly before the NSW Election.
Some fear teething problems may be a risk for the government due to potential public backlash. Experts fear traffic mishaps may affect back streets during the initial stages of the tunnel opening.
While it has been speculated that it may open in March, WestConnex construction managers are still deciding on the final date.
