A recent article on Canberratimes.com.au highlighted the importance of support for families following the loss of a loved one due to a workplace accident.
Since 2008, 10 industrial fatalities have occurred in Canberra, one of them the death of Ben Catanzariti – a 21 year old worker who died when a concrete pouring boom fell on him in 2012.
He suffered severe head injuries and died shortly after the incident. His mother, Kay Catanzariti campaigned to set up an ongoing Senate inquiry into industrial deaths.
In the article, she speaks of her continued heartbreak despite many years having passed since her son’s death.
In its submission to the Senate inquiry into industrial deaths, the ACT government said more could be done to support families after such tragedies.
The Senate Inquiry will examine the prevention, investigation and prosecution of workplace deaths in Australia.
