Ensure You Find Cables before Excavation, Workers Warned

Anyone involved with renovating or excavating is being reminded by Essential Energy to check for underground utilities beforehand.

Christine Withycombe,  Head of Health, Safety and Environment reminded workers that they are legally obligated to contact  Dial Before You Dig in order to confirm the location of undergound networks before beginning excavations.

She reminded workers that they need to know the location of underground cabling including electricity, gas, water and telecommunications networks before they begin to dig, to reduce the risk of death or serious injury, to themselves, other workers and the general public.

She also mentioned the heavy financial penalties that would apply to those found responsible for negligent behaviour when excavating.
