Deadliest Jobs for Men in Australia

While the Australian job market is booming, especially in the trade industries, many people in these industries are struggling.

These jobs are lucrative, promising six figure salaries however the men in these jobs are battling with depression and are committing suicide at an unprecedented rate.

The mental health of men has come under the spotlight this month and in Australia, suicide is the leading cause of death in men between 15 and 44.

Men are also more likely to harm themselves than women, three times more likely.

Each day 6 Australian men take their own lives and the number of suicides has risen by 9 per cent from 2016 to 2017.

Many tradies and blue collar workers are suffering from mental health issues simply because they don’t speak up and ask for help. Among construction workers, the problem is so bad, that they are killing themselves at double the rate of any other occupation.

Mates in Construction is one of the organisations working to raise awareness about mental health issues in the trades industries. The organisation educates workers on how to spot when a mate is in trouble.
