A construction accident at the West Gate Tunnel Project’s Footscray Road site has claimed the life of a 50 year old man.
The man was struck by a piece of equipment attached to a mobile piling rig and suffered head injuries. He died shortly afterwards.
The incident is being investigated by WorkSafe.
Including this tragedy, the number of workplace deaths for 2018 has risen to 12, which although one less than the same time last year, is still too many.
WorkSafe said this incident is a reminder of the risks of construction work.
The high risk nature of the industry is why the federal government mandated general construction induction training to teach workers how to work safely in construction. The training (called the white card course) is available online here.
