Canberra Light Rail Workers Forced to Work in Heat

A recent post on CanberraTimes.com.au highlighted that workers involved in Canberra’s light rail network construction had to work in near-40 degree heat recently and that the construction union is calling for laws that force workers to stop working when the temperature reaches 37 degrees.

Workers had to continue on despite 39 degree weather in order to prevent further delay to the first stage of the project from Gungahlin to the city.

WorkSafe ACT Commissioner Greg Jones recently went on the radio to urge businesses and workers to take care of themselves in the extreme heat, especially construction workers and other sectors that involved outdoor work.

Summer isn’t over yet, let’s remember that heat related illness can be fatal, so stay safe in the heat.
