Australians are being encouraged to take a moment to think about workplace safety this October, in Safe Work’s National Safe Work Month.

Safe Work Australia Chair Diane Smith-Gander reminded all Australians in all workplaces that a safety incident can happen in a moment. She urged Australians to take a moment to consider safety this October, saying that a moment’s forethought can prevent harm.

Smith-Gander went on to explain that this could be simply taking time each day to talk to the team about the hazards and risks on the work site.

She also said anyone can do this from those on the worksite to the CEO.

Last year 191 people died in Australia while at work and more than 106,000 made a serious injury claim.

Safe Work said no industry should be unsafe to work in, and not even one death or injury is acceptable.
