April 28 – World Day for Safety and Health at Work

Although World Day for Safety and Health at Work is over, the message that it carries is one that we need to remember every day of the year – planning for a safe and healthy workplace future.

Sunday 28 April was also Workers’ Memorial Day, remembering all those who died or were injured or sustained illness due to workplace incidents.

SafeWork Australia urged everyone to promote a safe and healthy future of work and plan for the future in the workplace keeping in mind a few important factors,

  1. The workplace is becoming more commonly exposed to digital technologies, including automation, artificial intelligence, augmented reality and increasing use of the internet.
  2. Task-based work organised through digital platforms is becoming more common.
  3. Australia’s ageing workforce and rising levels of stress and chronic disease require new ways of working to ensure safety and health in the workplace.
  4. There are new risks because of these new technologies and ways of working which need to be addressed.
