A WA Mining Company Was Fined for Workplace Safety Breach

A WA Mining firm received a $40,000 fine for an incident in December 2014 which left 3 workers trapped in a control room after a tank rupture caused an acid spill.

The workers managed to escape without injury but the court still found the company had ineffective maintenance systems in place.

The company pleaded guilty to failing to provide a safe working environment and was issued a fine in a WA court.

The company was aware of the need to conduct regular inspections and repairs of tanks but failed to do so. This incident could have ended fatally, and the workers were lucky to escape with their lives. The court found the incident was entirely preventable.
