According to SafeWork Australia, there have already been 56 workplace fatalities on Australian work sites at a cost of $61.8billion to the Australian economy.
In the construction industry, 9 workers have lost their lives on the job, the third highest number of workplace fatalities in any industry (exceeded only by the transport, postal & warehousing and agriculture, forestry & fishing industries).
In 2018 the construction industry had a total of 11 construction worker fatalities, given that we are only half way through the year and just 2 away from that total number, 2019 is not going too well for the sector in terms of health and safety.
